Al Qaeda’s al-Zawahiri Thanks Obama

CNN reports that:

An audio message reportedly from al Qaeda’s deputy chief vows revenge for Israel’s air and ground assault on Gaza and calls the Jewish state’s actions against Hamas militants “a gift” from U.S. President-elect Barack Obama.

The speaker, identified as Ayman al-Zawahiri, addresses Muslims in Gaza. He said the violence “is one part of a series of a crusade war against Islam and these air strikes are a gift from Obama before he takes office, and (Egyptian President) Hosni Mubarak, that traitor, is the main partner in your siege and killing.

Thanks to Obama? This sort of rhetoric reflects the type of mindset that Islamic radicals have, that the West is a singular conglomeration that will always support Israel no matter what. But will Obama truly stay in this vein and continue the United States’ support of the State of Israel? I am not too optimistic, at least not in the same way I was under the Bush administration. Obama has done nothing but say that he is “deeply concerned” over the deaths in the 2009 Gaza conflict. Instead of sharing his disappointments and “concerns” he should be standing shoulder to shoulder with President Bush in his support of the Jewish state in its conflict with Hamas.

Mubarak’s inclusion into the mix also demonstrates the dire straights of the political situation in the Middle East. Every moderate or pro-Western leader is under the threat of a Islamist coup d’etat or assassination, and the loss of Mubarak would only escalate the situation especially since it was the first Arab nation to recognize Israel’s right to existence (1977, under Egyptian President Anwar Sadat). Obama must do more than share his abhorrence of the horrors of war when he takes office, or we might see not only the end of Zionism and the Jewish state, but also the demise of the West’s influence in the Middle East.

al-Zawahiri continued: “My Muslim brothers and mujahedeens in Gaza and all over Palestine, with the help of God we are with you in the battle, we will direct our strikes against the crusader Jewish coalition wherever we can.”

After 9/11 we should take him at his word.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for visiting the new online base of Texas College Republicans.  Although the site is still a work in progress, we have much in store that will be implemented over the coming months.

The election of Barack Obama presents the Texas College Republicans with a fantastic opportunity to refocus, and remobilize the base of social and fiscal conservatism.  We intend to compare and contrast our approach to many of the hardships all Americans are facing, and educating the public on how conservatism, both on the local and Federal level, can have beneficial effects on the lives of Americans.

The past few years have been tough on the conservative movement. We hope to create a medium for both liberals, and conservatives alike to discuss the issues in a truly intellectual dialectic. I encourage you to take part in our movement, and to join in on the discussion.  We also welcome any other contribution you can make, both in terms of time, and donations so that Texas College Republicans can achieve its goal of expanding the Republican Party's presence in universities across the state.

We will not be able to achieve our goals without your help and support. Please stay turned for further updates and developments on this site and contact us with your questions, suggestions, and concerns.

May God bless you, and God bless Texas,
Lance Kennedy
